Article 57 — Member State sandboxes by August 2026.

EU AI Act Article 57 requires every Member State to establish at least one operational AI regulatory sandbox by 2 August 2026. These supervised environments let deployers test AI systems under regulator oversight before full market entry — with proportionate enforcement relief and structured evidence collection.

Deadline

2 August 2026 — sandbox must be operational in each Member State.

Scope

Providers and prospective providers, with priority for SMEs and start-ups.

Penalties

No new penalty regime; opt-in participation reduces enforcement exposure during testing.

Audact coverage

Sandbox-ready evidence chain + audit-ready artefacts from day one of admission.

How Audact helps deployers participate

  • Sandbox-application kit: prepared documentation of evidence-chain controls, FRIA inputs (patent-pending), and disclosure attestation samples
  • Per-Member-State policy engine pre-configured for the supervising authority's expectations
  • Structured exit-report data on incident detection, conformity pre-assessment, and remediation cycles
  • Application support planned to track against NL AP, DE BNetzA / Datenschutzkonferenz, and IE DPC sandbox programmes as they become operational

Sandbox participation produces a documented compliance posture that travels with the deployment when it leaves the sandbox. Audact's artefacts are designed for that handover.
